Commissioning Editor/Senior Commissioning Editor, Orion

Who we are and what we do

Shortlisted for Imprint of the Year in 2018, Trapeze Books is one of the most vibrant, dynamic – and commercially successful – imprints in the industry. Home to 17 Sunday Times and international bestsellers, our mission is to publish books that start conversations – from debut bestsellers Candice Carty-Williams and Daniel Cole, to entertainment megabrands The Ordnance Survey Puzzle Book, The Supervet and Glastonbury 50.

What you’ll be doing?
This is an exciting time of change for fiction at Trapeze. We’re looking to bring in new editorial talent to work alongside the Publishing Director to shape the future of the list and drive further growth.
You will be responsible for attracting exciting new talent, bringing books to market with creativity and ambition, and expanding the range of our commissioning to reach different audiences. You will be an ambassador for the list, working closely with internal and external stakeholders to champion Trapeze Books and authors.

Who we’re looking for

You will be excited by books that start conversations – from books that tap into the conversations happening in the world around us, to authors with great personal stories that generate media coverage. You will want to spark conversations in the way you publish, looking beyond our traditional formats and routes to market, and exploring innovative ways to reach new readers. You will have ideas and contacts that will enable you to build a list swiftly, and a keen interest in the changing media landscape and the opportunities it presents to publishers.

You’ll have the skills to shape and manage a book at every stage of its life, from an idea to publication and beyond. You’ll be great at working with our in-house team to develop each book’s strategy, its positioning, copy and design, as well as being adept at communicating with authors and agents.

You will want to join a small team who think big: and share our ambitions for our authors, our publishing and what we can achieve as a united team.

What we offer

We offer a vibrant, fun and creative environment within an enthusiastic and creative team. As part of Hachette, you will have access to competitive benefits, an extensive training library and development schemes such as mentoring.

Our commitment

Hachette employs people on the basis of their abilities. We aim to attract and develop talent from a base as broad as the world of readers we want to reach, with a wide and representative range of age, faith, disability, race, gender, sexuality and socio-economic, regional and cultural backgrounds.

We also recognise the importance of a good work-life balance, and champion flexible working, including part-time and job shares for all our roles. Please just let us know in your application or at any stage throughout the process if this is something you want to explore.
