So Elite: Wanted by Gavin Deas is out on the 15th of May. Gavin Deas is the cunning pseudonym of fantasy author Stephen Deas (The Adamantine Palace, The Black Mausoleum, Dragon Queen et. al.) and science fiction author Gavin Smith (Veteran, War In Heaven, Age of Scorpio and Crysis: Escalation). To better understand the process […]

Gillian: Secret Alastair Reynolds novel on her Kindle
The Boy with the Corrected Files.
We were thrilled and proud to publish Den Patrick’s debut novel earlier this year; The Boy With the Porcelain Blade. The book quickly picked up enthusiastic reviews from magazines, fellow authors, bloggers and fans alike. However amongst the praise from readers were some worrying comments about a few pieces of missing text in the ebook […]
The Boy With the Porcelain Blade: Chapter 4
It’s the final week of our serialization of our book of the month, The Boy With the Porcelain Blade, a most excellent debut from Den Patrick. It’s already been getting rave reviews online, not to mention some great feedback from our Geeks, and we’ve been sharing some chapters with you each week (you can still […]
A Guest Post from Tom Abba on The King in Yellow
Gollancz is delighted to welcome guest blogger, Tom Abba to the blog. Tom Abba is a specialist in narrative theory and practice, working within interactive media, and across film and television. Today, Tom shares some insight into The King in Yellow, HBO’s True Detective, digital books and beyond. You can find out more about Tom on his website.
Okay, so here’s the thing. The King in Yellow is either the thematic backbone of HBO’s True Detective,or it’s an incidental device being utilised by the hipster crowd to draw in the weird fiction mob and convince them that this series is worth sticking with. Time will tell which of these is true, but in the words of a noted writer of my acquaintance (hi Nick), rest assured, there is a Dog. It might not be the dog you expected, but it is there and it is barking.
The Boy With the Porcelain Blade: Chapter 3 and early reviews
Our book of the month for March is the brilliant debut The Boy With the Porcelain Blade from Den Patrick, which is out this Thursday (20th). The blogosphere is already beginning to light up with buzz about it – advance reviews are full of how gripping it is, how appealing the characters are and how rich […]
Kit Berry on Stonewylde – only £1.49 this month
We have a guest post from Kit Berry, author of the Stonewylde series, today: I sold the Stonewylde series to Gollancz back in 2010, despite misgivings. The world I’d created wasn’t your run-of-the-mill fantasy; no swords, little blood, not an elf, dragon or ancient portal in sight. There is a Dark Lord (the eponymous Magus […]
Den Patrick and Jen Williams in conversation
Last night we joined debut fantasy authors Den Patrick (The Boy with the Porcelain Blade) and Jen Williams (The Copper Promise) as they answered questions from Jared Shurin of Pornokitsch at a packed event at Blackwell’s Charing Cross Rd. Jared Shurin kicked off proceedings by promising the first-time writers a ground-breaking, original opening question… one that they’ve surely never been […]
Friday Reads: a special guest review of The Boy With The Porcelain Blade
A lovely thing about working in the genre (perhaps the most lovely) is how supportive publishers and authors are of each other. There really is a sense of community, a shared love of great books whoever has published them or written them. If there is rivalry it’s nearly always very friendly and most often there […]
Gollancz Announces £1.99 eBook promotion for all 2014 debuts
One of the great joys of publishing is the discovery of a new writer. For the editor reading the submission, the growing feeling of excitement is like a happy virus that first infects the commissioning editor and then – in true evolutionary fashion – demands to be spread to others. Editorial colleagues, senior management, Sales, […]
